I personally use memberwing on my membership wordpress website ( you can see it in action at african art club ), it is quite easy to setup and allows you to create members only content just by adding the code {++} with the members content behind. It is quite easy to use and support is also good.
They just upgraded the plugin allowing you to sell your content in a very easy way and a perfect integration with paypal. The new plugin membwingX is also fantastic giving you an instant affiliate program and allowing you to sell a one page content also, it is open source, and you can try it on a commission base (10%), but if you are serious about your membersites project, I would recommend to buy the memberwing professional version for unlimited sites, this will also remove your due commission. (just send them a support request )

Another service for membership script wordpress I was considering was DAP but it seems a bit more complicated to setup but also quite powerfull.
