3. Enclose bounce-backs (offers) with every box that goes out the door. If your product is a consumable that can be re-ordered, tell them how to re-order the product. If its not something that can be consumed and re-ordered, put something else in there for related products.

TIP: For digital publishers, the equivalent of this is making sure that your PDF or .Zip file that your customer gets from you has a “pitch” built into it… so should your buyers-list autoresponder and so should your download/thank-you page.

10. Use your list for surveys and focus groups. Your customers are the best source to get information about your offers, your product, how to improve it for the next show, how to improve your back end, and what other products
would appeal to them.

13. Fulfill your product in 48 hours. Don’t give fulfillment lip service. It’s probably the biggest single factor that affects your refund level. If your returns are high, it’ probably because the product wasn’t worth the price and it took too long to arrive. So forward the product quickly.

TIP: With digital downloads, this isn’t as much of an issue. If you sell physical products/merchandise, the point is valid.
However, the quick-response is also applicable to all other aspects… customer support tickets should have a quick turn-around, so should responses to questions from partners (JV partners, affiliate partners, etc). If you can’t provide quick turn-around on delivery and support, it’s time to bring in a virtual assistant.

19. Get your product name on the customers billing statement. When customers get an invoice on their credit card… Get something on there so when the customer sees their statement, they don’t question it. This keeps your
charge-backs low and your customers happy.

21. Communicate with your customers. Make sure the literature that you send with your order
is very clear about how to use the product…
Customer service calls are very expensive.

TIP: First, you want to make sure your product
is simple to use. Second, you want to provide
adequate training for it… PDFs, screenshots,
video tutorials. Whatever makes sense. Third,
you want to have a FAQ or Knowledge Base that
is a continually growing list of the most
frequently asked questions. And finally, in
case the customer still has questions, you want
to make it easy for them to submit their
support questions.

I am always looking for ways to automate my business whether it is finding ways to speed up the link building process or ways to batch install and update my Wordpress installs. How Google’s Algorithm Works (or at least some hints)

Google’s search team recently revealed to Wired’s Steven Levy some of its algorithm-related secrets. As many are well aware, Google’s algorithm is something it keeps very hush-hush about, so this was something of a rare occurrence.

The company’s search algorithm, explains Levy, in his multi-page feature article, is far from static. It is constantly being honed and changed and improved upon, specifically at Google’s weekly meetings at its headquarters, where dozens of engineers, product manager and executives discuss ways to make Google search better.

Levy lists some of the key advances in Google search since it first brought the ingenious Page Rank to the public. These include local connectivity analysis – brought about in 2003, giving more weight to links from authoritative sites; personalized results – started in 2005, users were given the choice whether to let Google mine their personal browsing behavior to provide customized results; and finally real-time search – which was brought in just last December, allowing users to receive search results from Twitter and blogs as they are published.

For the very few left in the world who are unfamiliar with Page Rank, this is what made Google famous: it is the ranking system invented by Google co-founder Larry Page that assigned a ranking to pages based on the number and quality of links to that page.

However, Google’s head of search Ubi Manber says that Page Rank isn’t the be-all and end-all of Google search. Google has skillfully learned how to incorporate contextual signals to help deliver the most relevant results. These contextual clues included the relevancy of the page title and the anchor text, as well as the freshness of the page, and the geographical location of where the content was created.

But some of the most important signals have been discovered democratically: Google gets millions of searches a day, generating data by clicking on certain results, changing their search query when they’re unsatisfied, and demonstrating the relationship between certain queries and certain geographical locations – these all provide Google with invaluable data that it then uses to improve its algorithm.

What Levy reveals is that with all this information being processed by the Google bots daily, the search engine is becoming very, very smart. It can understand semantics, like the fact that when water boils, it’s hot. It is also learning a vast amount of synonyms that are interchanged constantly in searches. It is even able to grasp the context within which a word is placed. This is the kind of intelligence humans may take for granted, but machines don’t have inherently. When they gain this kind of intelligence, they can become incredibly powerful (think of all the artificial intelligence movies out there).

The Google team is constantly on the look-out for problems with specific searches, and when they find them, they figure out how to fix them. The engineers test a tweak they’ve made on a small percentage of Google users, turning Google into something of a constant experimental lab. But that’s just how they roll. As the team continues to fix bug after bug, Google’s algorithm gets increasingly more intelligent.

The machine has even learned how to group certain words together (called bi-grams), depending on the context of the search. Levy gives the example of “New York,” which are two words that humans would instantly know should be grouped together, but a computer would not know this by default. Google does (now). It also knows that “New York Times” should be grouped as a three-word group, but that “New York Times Square” is a place, not a company. It’s a smart bot, that’s for sure.

As for the newly introduced real-time search, Google has, of course, discovered contextual signals for which Tweets should come out on top. The search engine is able to distinguish which Tweets are re-Tweeted, how many followers a Twitterer has, along with whether the Tweet is organic, or bot-generated.

If Levy’s article is anything to go by, we can expect our favorite search engine to continue to grow in intelligence, seemingly at exponential speeds.

I’m sure you’ve thought at some point: oh, I can just go to elance and get someone to do that for me…

And then you tried it and it was a disaster. And if this hasn’t happened to you, it’s only a matter of time before you realize that outsourcing can be twenty times harder than you would ever imagine…

So much so, that at one point I almost gave up on it.

But then I would have missed out big time:

1) I would have had to keep doing ALL the work myself. That means at best I could aspire to be a well paid self-employed person…

2) I had to do the deadly boring stuff I hated: Not only a huge waste of time, but also a double edged killer. When you have to do work you hate, it destroys your productivity and creates a negative
vibe about your business costs you incredible amounts in frustration and dissatisfaction.

3) I couldn’t jump onto new opportunities: I was so tied up in what I had to do that trying anything new, no matter how promising was just impossible.

4) I couldn’t get more than one thing done at once. Multiplying profits was a slow linear process.

5) When I didn’t work, my income would start to wane. Sure I’d have some passive coming in for a while, but it would get ever smaller…

Today everyone wants to learn at home. This is a niche I haven’t seen discussed much by Internet Marketing guru’s, but that seems very lucrative to me, and with a broad  customers match with an infinite number of possible sub-niches.

You can certainly earn money as an affiliate promoting “HOME LEARNING COURSES” like the other website I created to learn foreign languages and that promotes Amazon products (e.g. read home learning courses) or by creating a blog whhere you compare some products. But this is the easy way and usually don’t bring so much money in , inless you have a very well choosen niche and keywords.

Yes you can make money with other things than Clickbank (that sells Ebooks and recuring membership sites) Online you can promote all kind of things, also physical products. This is why becoming an affiliate of Ebay Amazon, or Commission Junction can be so lucrative. But you have to learn using the right marketing tools if you want to work at home, because without automation you will have sleepless nights and low income, but there are plenty of cheap plugins that allow you to create review sites like with the ReviewAzon plugin to promote Amazon products, but I advise you not to be lazy, create also unique content pages so that Google doesn’t slap you, and that your content ends also to be usefull to the web visitors like on the www.p8t.info blog ) I use also the reviewAzon plugin on that site,that makes it easy to ad one page reviews ( with clients reviews) or even several products on one page, selected youtube video’s, Ebay affiliate links, etc ..to learn more

Make money by creating your own “home learning courses”

If you create a website that you want to be successfull, it MUST focus around one core concept, that is very important because otherwise your prospects will not buy. Everyone wants to learn at home today and even University’s see the need to offer distant learning systems. And it is the same for working at home.

So if you have some skills, so obscure they can be, if you are not the only one to be passionate about the subject you should create a paid  course, a sery of coaching sessions, some videos or webinars, or even a simple serie of mp3 recordings. With all the webinar systems today, people don’t need to be in one place to join and discuss together. What I see online is very interesting, most webinars given on various subjects are usually conversations between two teachers with the students in listen only mode, but with the ability to asks written questions and feedback. These lessons can be recorded for later rebroadcasts.

Home learning courses can also be sold as DVD’s or online mentoring programs with a membership fee.

It is even possible to let someone pay to get one-to-one lessons with  Skype, where also solutions exists to record them (like Pamela) so that you can resell them as mp3 after you one to one coaching lesson that you also got paid for.

Much new area’s to make money are open for the future, and creating your own products is easier than you think, but you have way more possibilities to get a chance to get rich when creating your own products, because the ball can really start rolling when Joint Venture partners enter the game. Like my Dutch friend Tom who create a simple series of pdf’s to explain how to created blogs around downloadable products that makes money. He sold 2,000 of hem in a few hours at 47 $ dollars, with his own email list, and this was when things started rolling when big superaffiliates started promoting his home study course after the price rize to 67$. even after paid commissions this is more than 30,000$ in less than 24 hours. You can do the math.

This book is a guide to success for small business owners. Gerber is the founder of a consulting company for small businesses. In the beginning of the book, Gerber cites the well-known failure-rate statistics for small business: 40% fail in 1 year. Of those who survive 1year, 80% fail in 5 years, and of those who survive 5 years, another 80% fail. Over the years, Gerber has observed that the small business owners who fail often share a number of characteristics, while those who succeed do so not by luck, brains, or perseverance, but by taking a different approach. This book explains the approach that is necessary for a business to survive and thrive.

One of Gerber’s most striking observations is that most small businesses are started by “technicians”, that is people who are skilled at something and who enjoy doing that thing. (A technician can be anything from a computer programmer to plumber to a dog groomer to a musician or lawyer.) When these technicians strike out on their own, they tend to continue doing the work they are skilled at, and ignore the overarching aspects of business. Without clear goals and quantification benchmarks, they soon find themselves overworked, understaffed, and eventually broke. Worst of all, they may come to hate the work they do. Rather than owning a business, they own a job, and they find themselves working for managers who are completely clueless about how to run a business- -themselves.

The solution, Gerber argues, is for every business owner, especially the technician-owners, to balance their business personalities. According to Gerber, every business owner needs to simultaneously be an entrepreneur and a manager as well as a technician. The technician is the worker-bee, the one who produces the product. The manager makes sure operations and finances run smoothly and consistently. The entrepreneur formulates the goals, and steers the business in the direction needed to reach those goals. Of these three personalities, the entrepreneur is key- -without it, the technician will work himself or herself to death or bankruptcy. As the business grows, the business owner will need to draw away from the technician work and manager work and delegate this work, rather than abdicate this, to others.

For turning businesses around, or getting them off the right foot, Gerber suggests looking at franchises as a model. In comparison to the dismal rate of ordinary small-business start-ups, 75% of franchises succeed at 5 years. The reason they succeed is that they are set up so that any unskilled person off the street could walk in, buy a franchise, run all operations in the franchise, and have a fairly good chance of success. The product of franchise companies is a business model, not food, hotel rooms, etc. In order to meet this level of success, franchise companies have clear operations manuals, procedures, consistent sales approaches- -every detail of running the business is specified down to dress codes and wall paper.

By asking us to consider the franchise approach, Gerber is not saying to go out and buy a franchise license. Instead, he says to imagine that you want to sell your business as a successful franchise within a finite period of time. If so, what will you need to do regarding your business plan and management in order to meet this goal? That is, if you were going to make your business fool-proof so that any unskilled person could take over as owner after a few years and succeed with it, what will you need to do?

Overall, I found the ideas in this book extremely profound and incredibly useful for my own small-business venture. The writing style can be a bit wordy and choppy at times, which is the only reason why I did not give this book full marks. If you’re a small business owner whose business is out of control, stagnant, or worse, or if you’re thinking of going into business yourself, this book The E-Myth Revisited can be of immeasurable value.

One big reason readers choose e-books over ink and paper versions: The digital ones are cheaper. This is secret marketing links.

That wasn’t the case when e-books first appeared a decade ago. But Amazon has made a point of selling its Kindle titles at a discount to physical editions, even if it means losing money.

And then there are the titles that Kindle owners really, really love–the ones they get for nothing. As the Washington Post noted earlier this week, the list of best-selling Kindle titles is dominated by free books:

Amazon’s customers have made it clear that $9.99 is still too high for their taste. Most titles in the company’s list of top 100 Kindle bestsellers are priced below $9.99, and the most popular price point is $0.00.

The good folks at MediaBistro have gone ahead and counted, so you don’t have to. As of a day ago, 64 of Amazon’s top 100 Kindle titles cost nada.

How exactly does that work? I understand why Amazon is able to hand out public domain works like “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” and “Pride and Prejudice” for free. But I’m not sure what’s going on with titles like Noel Hynd’s “Not Your Mother’s Slow Cooker: Recipes for Entertaining” (#9). Anyone want to weigh in?

I’m also not sure what conclusions we can draw from the dominance of freebies on the Kindle charts. I’m tempted to say that Kindle buyers are rabid but indiscriminate readers, and they’ll lap up whatever you put in front of them.

But without a real sense of the numbers, which Amazon is never going to cough up, it’s hard to tell what the sales patterns really look like.

I suspect, for instance, that a lot of the freebies are picked up by readers in the first few weeks that they own a Kindle, when they’re looking to download something simply for the sake of downloading something.

I also assume that the Kindle charts are skewed by hardcore early adopters’ reading habits. And that the patterns will start changing now that more casual users are picking up the Kindle for the first time.

And in case you were wondering–because I was–says it is not counting free book downloads when it releases sales statistics like the one it put out on Saturday, when it said more customers had purchased Kindle titles than physical books on Christmas Day.

The video shows a man in a parking structure who attempts to kill himself by carbon monoxide poisoning. He threads a hose from the exhaust into the window of the Audi. When the fuel gauge reads empty, the man appears to be dead. But he wakes up. “Good for the environment. Good for you,” says the tagline to the ad. The man is then shown trying to choke himself by rolling up the window of the car on his neck. Of course this doesn’t work, since the window has sensors to avoid your hurt your hand or neck when trying to close the window

Notice the star (*) in the search query. That’s the wildcard. The joker. The anything goes placeholder.

Now skim the SERPs and look for the gold.

The best internet marketing strategy today is to use video to do your promotions, and also to do sites around one main theme or promoting only one produt so that people can see you have authority.

You will need video screen capture software like Camtasia, but also use the right tools to embed your video’s like video marketing software that will redirect automatically your customers to the product you want them to buy.
