The middle two columns had the main posts for the blog while the two side columns were each half as wide as a main post column. The two side columns contained navigation links and links to my recent posts, top posts, etc.

There was also a row that spanned the width of the main post columns after the first two “boxes” where I also had Adsense ads (leader board). Finally, the whole content area was 800 pixels wide to fit the lowest resolution screen monitors.

Insertion of ad boxes were in the first main content box, the row that spans the width of the main post columns and finally the box that is kitty-corner to the other ad.

Google Launches New Templates to Display cut and past Ads Google

Now Has Over 90 Templates For Advertisers

Google has introduced a set of new ad templates for its Display Ad Builder tool. The templates, which Google refers to as “elegant” reside in the “general” category.

“These templates have ready-made buttons and backgrounds that give each ad a cohesive look and feel,” says Dan Friedman of Google’s Inside AdWords Crew. “More specifically, the backgrounds use subtle gradients and the new buttons have unique shapes, icons and color treatments. The goal of these ads is to make it as easy as possible to create high-quality ads in a matter of seconds without having to use complex graphics software.”

Display Ads templatesWith some of the new templates, advertisers need only upload their product image and write some text, and the template pretty much takes care of itself. For the design-impaired, it’s a good way to easily create a decent looking ad.

In addition, most of them seem to cater to “clickiness,” meaning they make it easy for a call to action to inspire a click.

To use the templates, just click Display Ad Builder on the Create an Ad page in AdWords. Google Display Ads features over 90 different templates. Google offers a display ads tutorial here.

Since Google bought DoubleClick they seem to be changing the way they will do adsense ads in te future.

Do you remember last year In the near future the adsense ads might be replaced by Google own CPA network ads. I named DoubleClick.

As a publisher I have to tell you that Google decided that you have the right to opt out from the cookies they save on your computer to deliver you the ads you in fact don’t want to see based on the websites you visit. But they also oblige me to change my privacy policy pages to reflect this (work, work , work…)

If you do nothing you probably will see more CPA offers in the future, related on sports if you visit many relatd sites, or on cars if you visit the Porsche site. But clicking on DoubleClick ads seems also sometimes more dangerous as the AntiVirus1 that spreads in Sneaky Fresh DoubleClick Virus Ads.

The odd thing is that you need to download an application on your computer to opt-out. Not very friendly if you ask me. But I guess that an opt-in plugin wouldn’t have worked effectively.

As a publisher I tryed to become a doubleClick affiliate a few months back, but since they refused me for some obscure reasons I have no reasons to be exposed on the ads they delivered, since I guess that the new ads they will show will not bring any money in my own pockets. I prefer to see the old adsense ads. Anyhow since they will use the adsense code I added on my websites I guess they should pay me for doing so, but how will this happen since I am not a Doubleclick publisher ?

Formerly known as Urchin from Google, Google Analytics is now a leading, and free, tool to help businesses and individuals use performance data to improve their online marketing campaigns and web sites. For AdWords advertisers, Google Analytics can currently import cost data from AdWords campaigns. Google Analytics also allows you to create Goals and Funnels — useful features if your web site is designed to drive visitors to a particular page, such as a purchase or email signup page. A Goal is a web page that a visitor reaches once he or she has made a purchase or completed another desired action, such as a registration or download; a Funnel represents the path you expect visitors to take in order to reach the goal. Defining these pages allows you to see how frequently visitors abandon goals (and where they go instead) and the value of the goal — that is, access conversion rates and the monetary value of the traffic you receive. Each profile can have up to four Goals, with a defined Funnel for each. Incidentally, you can officially add up to 50 site profiles. Each profile generally corresponds to one web site.

Google Analytics can help you enhance most aspects of online marketing — from selecting and bidding on effective keywords, to determining the most relevant offers in email campaigns, to optimising web site design. By acting on this information, businesses of all sizes can attract more visitors, convert more prospects to customers, and improve the overall return on their marketing investment. Google Analytics is simple enough for businesses new to web analytics to get started quickly, and sophisticated enough for the most advanced online marketers. All reports, charts and graphs are viewable directly through Google’s site, but you can also download your data in XML, CSV, PDF or TSV formats — perfect for firing off important data to your marketing director or boss. Of course, you can also email reports.

Free online support is available and businesses can obtain customisation or advanced integration from Google representatives and select Google service partners. You can’t really go wrong.

Google Analytics is not perfect, however. A lot of ad filtering programs and extensions (such as Firefox’s Adblock and NoScript) can block its tracking code, preventing traffic and users from being tracked. In addition, some privacy networks will mask a user’s actual location and present inaccurate geographical data. Some users do not have JavaScript-enabled/capable browsers, or turn this feature off. However, these limitations affect only a small percentage of visits. The largest impact on data accuracy comes from blocking Google Analytics cookies. If cookies are not set in a user’s browser, Google Analytics cannot collect data. To be fair, these limitations affect all web analytics tools that collect on-site visitor data using page tags.
